The Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra is a scientific institution dedicated to research and advanced training in social sciences, arts and humanities, through an inter and transdisciplinary approach. The Ministry of Science granted it Associate Laboratory status in 2002, recognizing its contribution to public policies, advanced training and the dissemination and exchange of knowledge.
Since its founding in 1978, the CES has carried out research for and with an inclusive, innovative and reflective society, promoting critical approaches to some of the most pressing challenges of contemporary societies. Its mission is to continue attracting generations of exceptionally talented researchers and students in the field of social sciences and humanities. The CES was classified as “Excellent” in the latest international evaluation process promoted by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
